I am perfectly happy for people to remix, write fic, make art, podfic etc. Just link back to here so that any-one can see I have given permission.
Thank-you :) (Obviously this does not apply to taking the work, making it into an o-fic, and selling it, but rather in the realm of fandom!)

Dark Prince

Banner by Esteliel.

~“The Valar will never act, never see justice done. Even I can show more mercy than they. And I have nothing left to lose.”~

(Vanimórë look-a-like by Kir Tat.)

Vanimórë's Arda is a canon-based AU, which in this case means that Middle-earth history and canon characters written of are taken from the Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, very occasionally from the History of Middle-earth books, and Lord of the Rings. My interpretation of the events and people are non-canon, as, of course, are the OC's. The Silmarillion is the main reference for events before the Third Age.

It may be worth saying here, that I do know canon, and have read Tolkien's works for many years, but my love is for Middle-earth and the Elves, (not particularly the way Tolkien wrote them) and I wanted to write what I believed lay behind the events in Tolkien's stories, and into the Fourth Age and beyond. I've developed my own fanon that I explore through my series. I see no point in 'penance-writing', following canon because it's canon. I know canon, and do not want to be straight-jacketed by it. My imagination takes me on different paths. Do not, therefore, expect canon Elves or adherence to LACE. I would like to eventually make my AU Elves more like to the dangerous, ambiguous Ljósálfar of myth, living in some parallel dimension. I started writing when I was about ten, and wrote o-fic until the early 2000's, and moved on into fanfiction. I wanted to write within Middle-earth from age sixteen; nothing else really satisfied me.

I am pro-Fëanor and have been for decades, and I love the Noldorin Exiles fiercely. This is shown in all my works.

Please heed the warnings and rating. This is Adult-rated slash AU darkfic (at least so some people tell me.) and incest is a thread throughout the stories.

I am not a good writer. I write a lot, which is not the same thing at all. I hope that if I keep writing, I may improve a little, but I believe writing is a gift, and if one does not have that gift, the best to be hoped for is to be able to produce something 'workmanlike'. I apologize in advance. I do go back and edit all the time, but I am trying to do that in sequence. Please do check out my recommendations, though. There are some wonderful authors on it.

The Dark Prince series is much faster-paced than Magnificat or Crucible. There's a reason for that: I wanted to write an AU that spanned thousands of years and then be able to go back and write within it, exploring it at my leisure, which results in more sprawling and longer stories within that framework.

Order of reading

The Dark Prince series:

Dark Prince, Dark Lands, Dark Blood, and Dark God.

Child Of Storms is Anwyn's story, in which I wrote a little, and takes place before Dark Lands.

The first story chronologically is: I Will Lead And Thou Shalt Follow, set in Valinor in the Elder days.

Magnificat of the Damned Book I: Starfall is First and Second age, written primarily from the point of view of the Noldor, and telling Tindómion and Gil-galad's story, but it overlaps with Vanimórë's story, as they are the same 'verse.

Magnificat of the Damned: Book II. Resurrection, and Magnificat Of The Damned: Book III. Fire take place directly after Dark Prince, and tell of events that take place in the twenty-five years between Dark Prince and Dark Lands. They will probably overlap. (I changed the title of book 1 from The Power and The Passion, as I think this story may be four books long, so I wanted to split them under the same name and make them into a separate series.)

A Light In The East, and A Far, Fierce Sky are the first two stories in A Crucible Of Stars, a crossover between my Dark prince 'verse and Esteliel's Ethuil'waew, book I of her Anestel series. The timeline is changed, however, and it takes place approximately 500 TA, when Mirkwood was still the Greenwood.

Esteliel has very kindly created a Dark Prince Fanlore page for me.

I started reading Tolkien in the late 80's, and I write and love slash; I see it in Tolkien canon and always have. Reading the Silmarillion, I found myself thinking that between certain characters the UST simply seethed. Fanfic gave me a chance to explore my beliefs. (My absolute One True Pairing all these years is Fëanor and Fingolfin.) I also love incest, twincest, angst, darkfic, conflicted relationships, BD/SM, kink and erotica, drama and mystery. Above all: passion. I

Please note: Y!Gallery contains Adult M/M imagery.

I cannot thank these authors enough for all the immense pleasure their works have given me. They have stirred me, twisted me into knots, saddened me to tears, made me shout at the screen in approbation or abuse, made me think deeply about the characters and their personalities and motivations. These writers have given vivid life to both canon and original characters to a degree that is rarely seen in published works.

Recommended fanfiction master-list is here.

These are mostly long works or series with the exception of a couple, as these authors excel in creating their own world within Middle-earth and fill the breadth and space longer works permit with the power of their stunning imaginations and wordsmithing.

The links go to the authors bio or home-page, as their works have different ratings. Please heed these.

Esteliel has hooked me completely from since first reading her. Her series is not all about sex, despite the warnings and ratings, in fact it is a very skillful and thought provoking look at what is basically Stockholm Syndrome and how and why that can develop into love. The way the characters relationships develop from a terrible beginning is enthralling, deeply moving, and sympathetic, steamy and addictive. Any-one perceiving at this as just a kinky slash fic has missed the point entirely. I love this series. Highly recommended.

To me A New Day, (MEFA 2008 First Place, Longer Works: General) is the ultimate Maedhros and Fingon' story. It's the story I wanted to read about them when I was still in my teens. She has a talent for writing characters and settings which make me think I open a door into that time and place and just sit and watch the tale play before me.

Elegy For Númenor is superb.

Dawn Felagund.
A superb writer, coiner of the phrase 'Tolkien Heretic', founder of
The Silmarillion Writers Guild.

I am such a fan of The Sons Of Thunder, which takes place during the War of the Ring. All the characters are excellently written, beautiful descriptions, but her guilt-lust-grief tormented Elrohir naturally draws me. I love tormented characters and this story is rich in pathos.

Dark Forest.

Rating M. Genres: Drama, Angst. Slash.

When Legolas and Gimli venture into Fangorn, little do they realize the danger they are about to meet or the wretched secrets they will uncover from ages past.

Darth Fingon

Silmarillion based fanfiction, such as You Live Your Life In The Shadow Of The Mountain.

Pink Siamese.

Pink is a phenomenal writer, frighteningly talented. She also writes the steamiest het erotica I have ever read. Reading her over a year ago confirmed in me that some of the best writing is on the net, not published and on bookshelves.

 < Pandemonium_213

Tolkien's science does not work. :) In the Pandë!verse it does. :D
Some stories take such a different approach to Tolkien that they force those of us who like reading outside the box to stretch the boundaries of our imagination even further; to lay aside the 'absolutes' that we *know* within Tolkien's writing. Pandemonium's works portray Sauron in a way that is impossible to reject, a creator, a scientist, a genius. Her science is written in a way that even I can understand and both her original and canon characters characters are vivid and human and *real*.(Sauron/Marc Remillard. That is so perfect I don't even know where to begin !)

Alpha Ori

I am reading The Protege a slash story that is beautiful and unusual, feeling like myth.

Aislynn Crowdaughter

Slave-fic, an evil Elrond, a sadistic Aragorn, Legolas bound by a frightful spell? How does it work? It works because the AU constructed by the author ticks like a Swiss watch. It is reasoned and logical - and very disturbing.

Ignoble Bard.

I love Ignoble Bard's slash. It is elegant, erotic and beautiful. His Fait Accompli had me gaping at the screen at the end, I was so floored. He simply never fails to produce profoundly lovely erotica.

Beruthiels_Cat's stories, and some which were part of my Dark Prince, are or will be available on her Deviant Art account in the future, I believe. Certain ideas, pertaining to embodiment of the Flame Imperishable, the Great Music and the latter fate of the Silmarils are the intellectual property of Beruthiel's_Cat, who has been kind enough to allow me to use them, as they fit in with earlier hints and ideas in the stories. Thank-you so much.

Esteliel, Loesvalthen, BeruthielsCat and myself also co-mod the Tolkien-Elfslash Group on Deviant Art, for both art and fanfiction.

I'm posting things in memory of my Grandmother, Edith Mary Lloyd who wanted me to try and improve and write a novel one day. Well, I have, in a sense, with the Dark Prince stories, at least it is something which I finished for the first time ever.
God Bless, Nan.

This story always takes me into a dreamlike feeling of the hot, desert Harad. Sometimes I feel as if Legolas is dreaming from the drug he was given. I hope not! Such a beautiful, atmospheric story!

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm so glad it had that effect on you! I hadn't planned on it being a dream, but it could certainly be read that way, and in that case, poor Legolas. :/

I am trying to put some reviews on here, so not to lose them.

I thought I had comented on this story, but it was a comment I put when I favorited you to '' favorite authors ''. Anyway, this is probably one of the first slash stories I read ( by accident ) I was interested, since a fried of mine writes Legolas and I write Glorfindel, and as such was prepared to not like it. But your writing is superb; I think you have such a grasp on the complexities of the Eldar - something I've been thinking about for almost as long as I've been reading the Silm - 2 decades - and so I applaud thee! I can't bear Elves, especially those who have lived a long time ( reborn or not , they retain their memories.) being shown as simplistic, or floaty or ethereal. I have never thought they could be, as it goes completely against what Tolkien suggested in his older works. As for LACE, in Arda Marred things aint perfect, and I consider many of the most brilliant of the Noldor as being '' uniquely flawed '', but more interesting for it. I am not a fan of PWP, which is why I love your stories as they're exactly that; stories, novels. You seem to understand that the more people go through, the older they get the more esoteric their tastes can become, and you * know * the pain-pleasure thing, probably personally, it sounds like, which is why it is so authentically written. It's probably the best in depth look at a character ( Glorfindel ) and his complexities that I have ever read. Even when he is being what people might consider cruel, sadistic, etc, I can understand why, completely, since it chimes with what I have always felt about the VYT / First Age Noldor, and my first thought was ; '' wow, some-one who understands! '' I must admit I prefer all the tension and sadism to the '' love '', but that is just wholly personally, as if I start writing about two characters in love without any problems I loose interest and try and find something to spice them up/split them up, and in extreme cases, kill them off. ( I've killed them off just to get them out of boring marriages sometimes.) But Legolas deserves security, so I quite see why it has come to this point. Best slash novel I have ever read, I am counting it as one large book; mature, very hot, very authentic and should be in the top ten, instead of some of the silly/parody stories. But reader who know what good writing is appreciate it. I was not sure about slash at all when I read it, prepared to range myself on the side of the prim purists who reckon Elves are not like that. Well, they can stuff it. Oddly I do not write MPREG, but willingly overlooked it in this case as the story was so bloody excellent! * tips hat * . Cheers!

Author's Response: I've a doc with all my reviews - I can send it to you if you want, a big part are yours. :D I cannot say how very, very glad I am that you read my story back then. This fandom would truly be a much emptier place for me without your encouragement and support and of course your wonderful, addictive stories and characters. *hugs*

I believe from various forums and reviews that canon purists erroneously believe people who write slash do not know Tolkien. I like it to be made obvious that people like yourself can write AU, slash, BD/SM kink and MPREG and know HoMe. It just makes me grin a little bit. Heeh. Maybe you could put your Essays up at some point. They are permitted. :) I will definitely link to them when they are on the SWG anyway.

Never would have occurred to me to not like the flowers. One of my most vivid memories of The Hobbit is of Thranduil wearing a chaplet. I think they would look gorgeous, they're like natural crowns

I also like your inclusion of what estel is (apart from one of Aragorn's names) as I find Athrabeth Finrod Ah Andreth a really fascinating chapter of MR.

“I have sometimes managed to shoot a rabbit,” Legolas offered quietly, giving Haldir a cautious look to see if that would earn him his derision. “Although we more usually used slings – it was always a welcome addition to the rations we were provided with.”

Legolas is just so dear. He is still cautious, used to earning mockery. That is also an interesting idea, the Mirkwood Elves using slings. We so associate them with bows, after the Hobbit, but slings can be deadly.

Oh, how gorgeous! This was so worth waiting for -- it made me think about the very beginning of their come this far.

Legolas may have been feeling loved and accepted at this feast, but he certainly could not have expected Glorfindel's proposal. And how magnificently written that was, exactly how I would imagine Glorfindel speaking, with grandeur and poetry -- and love!

I love to see Legolas being spoiled, and the description of his clothes and the little *special* things like ornaments which he gets - that really are *his* is so touching. The sword sounds marvelous, too.

He is going to look gorgeous all dressed up, but I must admit the image of him sitting back against Glorfindel ( like that picture I just saw ) is just delicious!!

Absolutely wonderful chapter, there are so many layers to it. Legolas' wonder and sheer joy at just being able to touch Glorfindel and have that reciprocated is a real tear-jerker. It has taken him so long to come to this place.

I love Glorfindel's honesty with Legolas in this, that he reveals more, he is opening more to Legolas as his lover and not just some-one he is honor bound to look after. That has also been a long time in coming.

This passage, I think says an awful lot about Glorfindel and his feelings for Legolas.

It was my child that changed you so, cradled within your womb, and you know very well just how much that thought pleased me. It made me feel very... virile, very powerful to see you so. It was my seed that was growing inside you, my seed that changed you so – it was as if your body belonged more to me than it did to you. No, it did not make you seem strange, or a maiden, it made you precious to me; it made you mine."

That says it all. It's beautiful.
He is possessive, but Legolas needs precisely that.

And he is delightfully wicked d;-) but who can blame him.

No wonder Legolas is melting.

I am glad though, that now the desire is on a more equal level and Legolas can see that Ellonúr, who is no weakling, is aroused by the same things as Legolas, and it is not wrong. I am also glad that Glorfindel acted so protectively at the end.

"Enough," he murmured and drew Legolas tightly against him, one hand sliding down Legolas' chest to cover his rapidly beating heart. Glorfindel's voice was taut as well, and Legolas opened his mouth in a silent moan when he felt his Lord hard and ready against his buttocks. "Enough, Haldir. He is young still; I will not whip him here for your entertainment...

Glorfindel is so dangerously and powerfully sexual, but he is just as effected by Legolas as Legolas is by him.

Wow, and it was certainly worth waiting for. :D

I didn't know how any-one could make the actual piercing of Legolas' nipples so sensual and erotic, but of course I am only used to the very fast *click* of ear piercings, but that was just gorgeous.

And “You truly have found a rare treasure. He is indeed very beautiful, as everyone says, but there is the real reason why you cannot let him go. The way he reacts to you. So expressive... He cannot hide what you make him feel.

Yes, this is absolutely right, Legolas is so responsive, it's breathtaking, and definitely must be for Glorfindel d;-)

That was brilliant. I am so glad you finally wrote this. :)

Lovely. Silver and gold.

Legolas is so sweet, and still so uncertain.

the most important gift was this day itself, which made him feel as if he deserved such joy, as if, just maybe, even for someone of such little worth as he, it could be possible after all to not be despised or pitied, but to live the life he had seen others lead.

One day he will know that he should always have been made to feel loved, and he does deserve it.

And Glorfindel is pure golden lion d;-) possessive and passionate.

My jaw dropped at the lady so obviously enjoying braiding the flogger, lol. :D Naughty - hoping Glorfindel and Legolas will entertain her, lolol!

I am so loving the ever evolving relationship between this wonderful couple.

Legolas more than deserved such a time, accepted by every-one there, and the gifts were beautiful. I love the way you have woven Finrod into this story, and that Legolas now wears a jewel that was made by him so long ago. He sounds so lovely, and he does seem very like Legolas. I am sure Finrod will adore him when they finally meet. That weaving of the Elder Days into Legolas' betrothal day is wonderful - and he must feel astonished at being compared to Finrod, but I hope he will think on Glorfindel's last words and know how true they are.

Oh, this was a wonderful chapter. I am so glad that Legolas can talk to Haldir like this, and that Haldir also opened up to him, in a way, and was caring.
Taking him away from the conversation was a kind thing to do, and then having such a talk, reassuring him about Ellonúr - telling Legolas what he felt when the Mirkwood warriors threatened him.
Legolas needs some-one like this in Imladris to talk to :)

Glorfindel brought up some fascinating points: how he had changed by becoming a father, how it is *overwhelming* for him. It has been obvious he loves Gîl dearly, but it has changed him at a very deep level. Also, I loved what you said on AoO about being able to see, if one looks deeply, that some-one bound to another, as Ellonúr saw in Glorfindel's eyes. That's beautiful.

Yes, Ellonúr is suffering from a kind of Stockholm Syndrome, too, but I think Glorfindel now knows he cannot help Ellonúr in that way any longer.Sorry, I worded that previous review completely wrong, because I was so tired XD.
This was a very interesting conversation. I was fascinated, because Ellonúr did bring up some very important points about Glorfindel and Legolas. It is good that Glorfindel does understand and knows exactly what his abuse has done to Legolas, and that it will take a long time to heal those scars.
Unfortunately, I think Ellonúr did believe it was pity that caused Glorfindel to become betrothed and did not like it when he saw that there was far more.
My soul knows his Oh, that is beautiful.

I do feel sorry for Ellonúr, but he also does not understand how Glorfindel has changed, but I see it, having followed the story.

Oh my gosh -- I have no words. Lol, well, I have a few if I can find them!   Those scenes in the mirror were incredible. Some of course, are from canon: Glorfindel's earlier life, facing the Witchking, Smaug, the Black Ships, Minas Tirith, but the thought of Glorfindel having to enter the Mirkwood Realm like that is horrifying. (And was so dramatic, I could just *see* him. He is so superbly arrogant, you have to love him!)

And Legolas knows nothing about his future life and what role his plays in the war of the Ring, save that last glimpse he had at the end of the chapter, which could mean anything.

All those visions were like punches, so vivid I could see and feel them.

This chapter exposed a great deal about Glorfindel, as well, what he said about knowing he had to return to Middle-earth, but now how he would do nothing that would put Legolas or Gîl in danger. His inherent nobility does come across very clearly in this chapter. I just have to wonder how he will feel about Legolas in the Fellowship, even though by then Legolas will be a skilled warrior. I am almost amazed Legolas has no inkling at all, but how would he? he has only just begun to feel loved, and to be trained.

(But Legolas is absolutely right -- and Glorfindel was thinking of himself when he spoke of going before Manwë -- what Glorfindel did is not for Manwë to forgive, only for Legolas.)

Such a beautifully explored epic finished, and so much more to come!! I am so looking forward to it.

Oh, and I did mean to say, I have never seen any-one so thoroughly squashed as Galuron was in that last part -- and he so deserved it. And it ended with such a prophecy. I could hear that ringing, as you described and Glorfindel sitting his stallion looking like a legend.

I feel like I did the first time I watched FOTR at the cinema - completely floored.

That was a magnificent last chapter to an incredible story. There are so many vivid and wonderful images, of what Legolas sees in the Mirror, so much emotion in Glorfindel's words and so much truth. Legolas saw Glorfindel riding into Thranduil's court? Oh, good heavens!! *Head in hands*. He would, too, there is no doubt.

And dear Legolas, wanting to comfort Glorfindel; his heart is extraordinary.

I remember when I first found this, and was too shy to review, when you had Legolas first look in the Mirror, and I did not see an update in months. That must have been three years ago and you had already been writing it for a long time. Of course, I did have the pleasure of reading Ethuil'waew, Anestel and part of CE all at once, but I was so excited when you updated, and still too shy to review for a while!

The ending of this is just breathtaking, absolutely glorious. I have to quote it because it gave me a thrill all down my spine.

“I have warned you,” Glorfindel then said, so formidable in his anger that even Legolas shivered. “I have warned you repeatedly. Have you forgotten who I am? Run home to your father, tell him your lies, but know this: I am not someone you want to anger, boy. Where are the great deeds you have accomplished? Have you faced a dragon? Or one of the Dark Lord's demons, spewed forth right from the maws of Angband? Who are you to talk of shame? Legolas has shown greater honor and courage than you ever will. And one more thing I will tell you, another piece of intelligence to send your father if you will. The gift of foresight was given to me, and I tell you this: You will not sit the throne of Mirkwood, nor will your brother. But the day shall come when all the folk of the wood will sing the name of Legolas in praise, and Mirkwood shall not be restored to its former glory until this has come to pass.”

Glorfindel's words resonated among the golden mellyrn, and all talk fell silent. There was a power to them which touched even the hearts of those too far away to hear his pronouncement, and Legolas shivered, seeing for a moment as if through a golden haze a cavalcade of wood-elves, setting out from his father's forest with himself in the lead...

Oh, wow. That is just stupendous and dramatic writing. What a way to end CE!

I hope to see this story as the most read on here, as it's everything a story should be, with every single element that makes for good reading; all the emotions and the growth of the characters, peeling them almost, to see more and more layers. It's sad, and passionate, exciting, and beautiful, and people who cannot get over slash or MPREG - well their loss, truly. As for me, Legolas and Glorfindel have become part of my life over the last three years, and I have so much invested in them and their lives. I have cried and been enraged, been moved and smiled, and naturally, the BD/SM is superbly written and also explained, *why* Legolas enjoys, it, why he responds to Glorfindel, and always will.

I feel really shaky coming to the end of this, even though I know that you are continuing. It's been such an incredible voyage. And I am so, so glad that the series will go on.

Huge hugs for writing this for us!

I treated myself to re-reading this from start to finish yesterday, and it enthralls me just as it did the first time. There are such depths to Glorfindel and Legolas that they deserve the time you have spent (and are still spending) with them. The more I read it, the more I realize how incredibly complex the subject matter is, and how wonderfully you deal with it; you seem to expose a little more of their characters in every chapter. So much has happened in CE to Legolas, and also to Glorfindel, as so many people must have wanted him to love Legolas when they read Ethuil'waew and Anestel, but it did not seem as if Legolas would ever be anything more than a pleasure-slave. He does have so far to go, but wow, the journey is surely worth it. One thing I was thinking. If Glorfindel could see Legolas life in Mirkwood. I think he is an enormous comfort to Legolas now, but I cannot imagine he can know what it is like to *be* Legolas, to see what made him how he is. (Of course, Glorfindel saw and participated in ill-treatment in Imladris, but never saw his neglect and banishment in Mirkwood.)

As you said on LJ, Glorfindel does not care what people think. he is ultra confident, wholly alpha. Legolas does care what people think, very much. It is very hard to put yourself in another person's position, and Glorfindel is doing very well in letting Legolas lance his own doubts, fears and sorrows, but maybe to see him... I hope Legolas makes another friend in Imladris, as he needs them. Glorfindel is so much older, that it seems to me it would take a very long time, if ever, for Legolas to feel he could really *be* Glorfindel's friend, as well as his lover. He's so very young, and has seen so little. His cup runneth over, when it comes to having an incredible lover d;-), but to have a friend he could talk to, yes, that is what he is missing. It made me so sad when he was looking at Gîl and wondering if he had been like that, thinking he should tell him not to trust so easily :( As I can imagine a little Legolas, but Gîl, as you say, knows both his parents adore him, and has no reason to feel uncertain or unwanted.   Oh, I loved this. All of it. I liked Legolas and Haldir's talk. The situation between those two has changed about as much as the relationship between Glorfindel and Legolas. It is no wonder that Legolas would like to stay here, because yes, things in Imladris will be very different, and I really doubt he will just be able to hide with Glorfindel's men, as I don't think Glorfindel would want him to do that at all.

He is still so very fragile, Legolas, as you wrote, feeling as if he is walking blindfolded, and trusting Glorfindel to lead him. Which I think he can, but he Legolas has so far to go to accumulate any fragment of true self-worth, bless him. He always makes me want to hug him.

The last part was very interesting. yes, Glorfindel is arrogant and angry, proud; whereas Galadriel, as he says, as had those edges worn from her, Glorfindel has not. But oh gosh, whatever is he going to see in the Mirror? O_O And I suppose Legolas will also see it as he is there, and his last experience with the Mirror was so traumatic.

Thank you so much for this update. I do hope you have another one up soon, but they are always so worth waiting for. This is such a complex relationship, and I love the exploration of it.

Oh, how wonderful to wake up to a new chapter of this - and such a powerful one!

So hot, although Legolas shame at the beginning, his thinking back, made me weepy for him, bless him. Then the pure heat of their sex. *Thud*
Legolas needs Glorfindel as much as Glorfindel needs him; it is shown very clearly here.

Legolas felt himself sinking into them as if into a deep pool of water, pulled by an invisible current that frightened him with its strength, and then, suddenly, he felt warmth, the heat of Glorfindel's soul warming his as the sun warmed both their bodies.

That is beautiful!: that Legolas feels the connection of their souls, that Glorfindel is his, as much as he is Glorfindel's.

You are mine and I am yours, and so it shall remain until the end of Arda itself, with Eru as our witness.”

Legolas silently looked up at him, awed and overwhelmed by the strength of the love that streamed through his entire body at this declaration, and Glorfindel, as if drawn by an irresistible force, moved to cover his face and throat with hundreds of kisses.

How gorgeous, and that is a glorious, loving and sensual image: Glorfindel patterning him with kiss after kiss. Legolas so needs and deserves this.

Thank you for posting this so that I could read it first thing. Hugs!! Legolas is still so vulnerable, and all he can do at the moment is lose himself in Glorfindel's possession, because that to him, proves Glorfindel wants him -- and of course he does, as you said chapters back, he is still mad for Legolas. It shows that those scars are still very raw however. Poor Legolas, he needed to hear what Glorfindel said to him.

I think I have never read the spiritual connection of two Elves in love written so beautifully. It's so deep and breathtaking. Glorfindel lavished him with love and with opening his heart in the last part of the chapter, and he does need to do this, as well as make love to him d;-) often - but this is something I saw in Glorfindel (or felt) even in Ethuil'waew and Anestel, that this generous, wildly loving soul did exist and was waiting for some-one to pour it all out on. This is a brilliant exploration of such a complex relationship.

That was an amazing chapter.
I can hardly find words to describe the depths of the things uncovered in this. It began so erotically, but the emotional turmoil that Legolas experienced seem to completely break a dam inside him. And he broke my heart - again; even though I know he thinks himself of so little worth, his words traumatized me and made me cry. I wanted to wrap him up and hug him, but thank goodness Glorfindel understands why Legolas wept and listened to the last uncovering of Legolas' soul (which must have demanded so much courage and trust in itself) and will be there for him.

I have always felt that these two had to belong together, but Glorfindel said it:

You belong to me, because you cannot be any different, and I own you, because I cannot be any other way either. You are mine, and I think that you know that for both of us, it must be this way, and it will always be, no matter what outer form our games will take. At the heart of it, this is our truth.

That was just soul-shaking, Esteliel, and brilliant.

Back to Middle-earth Month: Bingo Card: reviews - Review a story by a friend.

A perfect opportunity to revisit Cuil Eden.

I said once, that I came across Anestel first which is true. It was the summary that piqued my interest, that Legolas was pregnant with Glorfindel's child, but that there had been only hatred between Mirkwood and Imladris for centuries.

I read the story for that, since I had spent years on role play sites where every Elven land was friendly with the others. That makes good political sense, but I'd been reading HoMe, and found a part in War of the Jewels, where it spoke of the Avari behaving treacherously toward the Noldor, hating their arrogance, and sometimes envying them, and this, (and the Elves of the Silmarillion) were my idea of Elves, not peaceful tree-huggers. The idea of Mirkwood and Imladris hating one another drew me, as it promised conflict. (By that I do not mean war, necessarily, but emotional and political conflict).

I was not disappointed. The Anestel series has racked me with all the gamut of emotions from fury to genuine love, the relationship so expertly handled that the MPREG ceased to matter. (Actually, that never mattered; it was explained beautifully, but I don't search out MPREG stories. In your series, it worked, was rare and very special). What did matter to me was Glorfindel and Legolas, primarily Legolas of course, since all my sympathy was flowing in his direction, but I could never, even through Ethuil'waew and Anestel, when Glorfindel behaved so abysmally toward Legolas, quite believe that a character who hooked me the first time I read LOTR, could be so cold-bloodedly cruel. He seemed too passionate to be cold, but something had darkened him so that he was not the reborn, the Lord of the House of the Golden Flower, former Lieutenant of Turgon, and 'Elf-lord of a house of princes. The fact that this story also becomes about Glorfindel's finding what he once was through Legolas, is just one of the aspects which makes it so addictive, and rings so true. I am sure that, when Glorfindel realized what he had done, in Lothlórien, I cried, because that was a huge turning point, and at the end, when he faces Galuron in the last chapter:
Asfaloth snorted and shook his head, eyes rolling so that Galuron visibly paled, though he refused to step aside.

That was immense, that was Glorfindel as he truly is. There is so much more, since Legolas is still a wounded soul, and still so dependent on Glorfindel for his sense of self-worth, but this story is all about spiritual change, and growth, and you write it remarkably. The fact that the sex and kink is as hot as fire, is the icing on the cake, and needs to be in the story, is inseparable from it.

You, Esteliel, have written this story in the face of detractors who have not a tenth of your talent, and for that alone I would admire you. But I entered the fandom knowing nothing of what was popular or hated, nor caring; I read it as some-one who appreciates a storyteller who can delve into such complex subject matter, and four years after discovering it, your series still enthralls me.

That was incredible, Esteliel. Not only was it searingly erotic and edgy, but it transformed, bloomed into something so profound, that it brought tears to my eyes, and an even greater depth to Glorfindel and Legolas' relationship. It was stunningly done, and mystical. I don't know any-one who can blend erotica and such spiritual mystery. The ending was so poignant, too. *sniff*

Author's Response: Oh, thank you so much! I can't say how happy I am to hear that! For a man like Glorfindel, who experienced life as fea alone, the body -and sex- would also have something very spiritual, I am sure. I'm so glad ghat came across! And while he might enjoy kinky things, there is a reason for why he enjoys it, and why Legolas enjoys it too. It's so much more than a technical sex act, its really about who their are - a breaching of barriers, of the body as well as the soul.

Glorfindel's garden sounds so beautiful, and it is right that the celandines should bloom for him, and the garden should resemble his colours. I wonder if a special flower will grow there just for Legolas.

Wow. There is a deeper and richer element to their lovemaking now, (not that it was not deep before, but the relationship was different.) though Glorfindel is still the 'Master', still the one Legolas wants to obey. It is not surprising that he remembers Legolas in the courtyard, and then crying with shame, and is still roused, even though he is ashamed of what he did, because that is simply Glorfindel and the way he is made. And Legolas needs this so much; it fulfills him in ways he probably cannot even understand fully yet, and he cries, but now Glorfindel will be there and hold him. And torment him d;-)

I am a bad, bad man.

Oh, yes indeed he is. Lucky Legolas d;-) And it sounds as if Glorfindel is bent on making up for all those weeks of chastity! Phew. So hot!

Author's Response: Awwww, thank you! Glorfindel had this in mind for quite a while, and after the long journey, it was impossible to deny him! Not that I wanted to, because I certainly had fun writing this. Poor Legolas, who doesn't even know what is happening to him, and yet his reaction to it is more than Glorfindel can possibly have dreamed of. I'm so, so glad that you feel there is "a deeper and richer element to their lovemaking"! *hugs*
Glorfindel really, really regrets what he did - but he didn't change from one extreme to the other. The thought of his own power over Legolas does arouse him, no matter that he knows how very wrong he was. He might regret what he did, but he would not undo it if he could, not if it meant that he would lose Legolas. :(

How sad that Legolas had to see Mirkwood from afar -- but there is that vision, which he has not been able to fully consider and think about...the vision of Glorfindel too!

I was thinking that Legolas tries to assure himself he looks like a person of worth because he is dressed as fine as a prince, but that he has to look to his clothes and jewels is an indication that he still does not feel in his heart, that he is truly of worth. That will have to come slowly, and will take much time.

yet his eyes gleamed with the icy blue of a glacier's heart.

I can absolutely see that!

“It is not Legolas Thranduilion who stands before you. This is Legolas of the house of the Golden Flower. He is of my house, and I protect what is mine! Those who disrespect him disrespect me – think well on that before you seek to do him harm!”

Yes, tell them, Glorfindel!

I don't know how Erestor could expect Legolas to earn respect when he was treated as a slave; there is an irrational hatred here which will can only bring trouble.

And yes, Gîl cannot be shielded much longer from the circumstances, as Legolas knows.

This was wonderful! I have been waiting for them to return and wondering what the reception would be -- I think Glorfindel really needed to ram it down their throats as he did, because the return was so different to the departure, and Legolas was only known as the son of an enemy, and Glorfindel's slave.

Hugs!! I love it!!

Author's Response: Thank you! :) *hugs* There has been a change - Legolas isn't the same Legolas who left with Imladris. He has gained a little confidence - but only a little, and like you said, it is going to take a long time. He might feel at ease now with Glorfindel and his men, but Elrond, Erestor and the other inhabitants of Imladris are a different thing. Let's hope that they will take Glorfindel's words to heart. The greatest part will probably indeed be too terrified of him to openly insult Legolas, but some, like Erestor, won't be that easy to convince. And of course, Elladan's hate is not exactly rational, and sooner or later Legolas *will* be confronted with it. :/

Ooooh! The new story - and I love the title!

What a wonderful beginning! Glorfindel's thoughts about Legolas, and how, a year before, he did not even think about him much, :( make me realize again how far this story has to come, while his conversation with Arwen shows how far it has to go. I am glad that he asked Arwen to be Legolas' ally in Imladris, and I think she would be. But he is right, the difference between how it has been lately in Lothlórien and how matters stand in Imladris, are starkly different. Glorfindel did encourage people to mock and belittle Legolas, and when they left Imladris, nothing much had changed. Now, it has, but Imladris has to come to accept Legolas. Mind you, I cannot imagine Glorfindel allowing any-one to slight Legolas now.

And oh, so hot, because they cannot be together, and so secret. It is a wonder that Glorfindel could keep his hands off Legolas, and Legolas' yearning is so innocently wanton that both of them seem to burn.

I am so, so glad that you have begun the new story of this epic!

Oh, and I meant to comment, but forgot in my excitement, lol. How do you manage to write such sexual heat and seething desire with them doing so very little. That is incredible!

Author's Response: Ohh, thank you SO much! *hugs* I can't say how happy it makes me that you love these two as much as I do! It feels strange to start a new chapter of their journey after such a long time, but it is still the same journey, after all, just a different part of it. So much has changed between them - but no one in Imladris knows, though I think that due to couriers, news of their betrothal will probably have spread to Imladris. Glorfindel will have to play a very active part if he wants to change how Legolas is treated. Poor Glorfindel, he doesn't take well to celibacy. :D Let's hope that he won't implode with frustrated desire before they finally reach home. *g*

This is such a beautiful chapter! Everything in it is just gorgeous; Legolas feeling of belonging, of friendship is wonderful, but his hesitancy is still so near the surface, and he is still so fragile.
I love Itaril, and how she treated Legolas, and I love most of all Glorfindel's admiration of Legolas and the way he is with him, what he tells Legolas, what he is showing him. There is such sensual spirituality in it that it brings me close to tears. Their love has become such a magnificent thing, really, and with so much more still to come, I hope!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! You're right, Legolas is still so fragile. He's had his trust betrayed too often to truly be able to open himself up to friendship, but he is going to have a lot more time for that. And I don't think that Fairion and Laindir or Itaril are going to betray his trust. Glorfindel thinks that it is a very valuable lesson he has to teach, and that perhaps only a man with his experiences can truly teach it: that body and soul were made to be in unity, and that there is no shame at all in enjoying the pleasures of the body. To him, it would be heresy to not taste pleasure, when that is what they were given bodies for that can feel pleasure. There IS a lot more to come. After all, they still have Haldir's flogger which hasn't been put to use yet... ;)
