I liked your story very much! The act of discovery is a true delight and I can well understand Helyanwes excitement.
I'm a physicist and I can fully relate to the way of a discovery you describe here - the first step is more often than not through sheer luck while simply playing a bit with things, the more systematic research can only come later, when you've found the actual question!
