It is the mark of a good fairy-story, of the higher or more complete kind, that however wild its events, however fantastic or terrible the adventures, it can give to child or man that hears it, when the “turn” comes, a catch of the breath, a beat and lifting of the heart, near to (or indeed accompanied by) tears, as keen as that given by any form of literary art, and having a peculiar quality.

MEFA 2012 News
Hello, after some discussion about the changes to this year's MEFAs (Middle-earth Fanfiction Awards for those who have not encountered them before), it was just announced that there won't be any MEFAs at all anymore.
Meanwhile, the unofficial community mefa-ratings on LJ, where those changes were being discussed, has now turned into a group where proposals, discussions and planning for these awards, either under the same or a different name, currently takes place. Feel free to join the discussion there or offer your help! (Especially people with experience in coding would be very welcome!)
Furthermore, because diversity never hurts, there is also the new community tolkienawards on LJ, with more discussion, suggestions and volunteering!
If you are interested in a review-based, all-encompassing Tolkien fanfic awards programm, please feel free to join all discussion. :)

Many Happy Returns, Esteliel
Esteliel has contributed so much to the fandom over many years; she is generous, kind and altogether a lovely person.
I want to thank Esteliel for everything she has done, and hope that today, her birthday, and every day thereafter will be kind to her.
Hugs and thank-you, Esteliel.

Uploads of Multiple Older Stories. Pt II
Important. This is being posted in response to concerns raised by other members regarding one person who continues to upload many short stories at one time. This results in other Most Recent stories being knocked down the page and overlooked.
Please note that this applies only to that one person who uploads to multiple archives and writes many shorter works. (On LOTRFF.com she had uploaded 193 stories in seven years, and also uses An Archive of Our Own.) AO3 is a large, stable multi-fandom archive, therefore the author need not be in any hurry to upload her work to Faerie since AO3 is not going anywhere, indeed it is only getting busier and more popular as time goes on.
I am therefore requesting this person to limit their uploads to two separate stories only, twice weekly on non-consecutive days, for instance Saturday and Wednesday, or Monday and Friday. The author is asked to do this out of consideration for the other members. To see five or seven stories by the same author dominating the Most Recent page is incredibly unfair on other members. These stories are uploaded on other archives, and can easily be read elsewhere. Certain members such as Glorfindel only use this one archive. There is a difference.
Thank-you. Please leave comments or use the contact button to message me if you wish.
