I think the politics can definitely tip the balance, although perhaps not make the difference. I think Georgians like the Russian type of song, and vice versa, in spite of politics

Actually the voting is much less political than people say - I asked a bunch of Brit teenagers today and their 3 favourites were all in the top 6 - and they thought UK entry 'old'.

Same, Glorfindel. It's geopolitics disguised by bad songs, I think.

The Lingering Series by Trollmela Rated: Teen [Reviews - 0]
Summary: Saruman should have known from the start that inviting the remaining sons of Fëanor to the White Council would only cause him more trouble than it was worth. (AU)

Edit: The Series is now available on AO3.

Recommender's comments: It is the first story of a series, set in the Third Age while the Ring War is resurfacing. The absolutly lovely twist in the storyline: Maedhros survived, managing to stay in contact with Maglor and Elrond. Due to his status and his history it is still not a happy fic (or a slash one, only gen) but there beginning's of healing in the Feanorian's hearts and some endearing hurt/comfort moments.

I recommened the series (three stories so far, but ongoing) especially to those who like what-if fanfictions and those who love Maglor and Maedhros. Fans will get their share, simply for the fact that they are not dead for once and with the author's writing style the series leaves defintely an impression. Certainly I one could get addicted to.

Elder Shadows (Maedhros, Maglor, Elrond)
Overcoming the Dark (Maedhros, Glorfindel, Legolas)
Gathering Clouds (Maglor, Maedhros, Celebrimbor, Elrond)
Grief (Maedhros, Maglor, Arwen)

To See A World by Nightwing Rated: Teen [Reviews - 0]
Summary: Pre-LOTR. Injured and alone, Legolas and Aragorn are forced to take refuge in a wintry foreign land. But when darkness encroaches from within and without, they learn that refuge can become a deadly trap.
Recommended by: Spiced Wine
Recommender's comments: A beautiful Aragorn/Legolas adventure/friendship. Nightwing is a truly wonderful writer; this story is filled with pathos and danger. One of the first fanfic stories I ever found, and one which made me like Aragorn more than decades of reading the books (or seeing the films. he's just not a favorite of mine.)
It is the one genfic I can keep reading, probably because the relationship between Aragorn and Legolas is so lovely. Unfortunately, it has not been updated in years, (although I recently heard from the author and hope she will return to it.) but it is still well worth the read, as it is a long story and about two-thirds complete.

The Stuff of the Earth by Joan Milligan Rated: Mature [Reviews - 0]
Summary: Of tainted flesh and pure souls, and the real first half-Maia.
Recommended by: Virodeil
Recommender's comments: An unexpected look into Carcharoth’s origin; twisted and intriguing, but what do you expect from Melkor’s deeds otherwise? The story is full of surprises, and I have never read anything that surpasses its originality for this particular topic so far.
