Not a Returnverse story, although there is an idea in it that was in the plot line for that series right from the beginning. But, once the first lines of this came into my head, it took my life over for a month or two until I wrote it; and writing it was a bit like giving birth - very painful.

Summary: During a visit to Emyn Arnen, a remark from Pippin awakens a decades-old memory in Aragorn's mind. During the evening he tells the tale to his friends: During Aragorn's years as Thorongil, Steward Ecthelion has commissioned him as a lieutenant in a battalion posted at a small town. One night the corsairs of Umbar attack and drag a friend of Aragorn's away as a prisoner. Shortly afterwards Aragorn is sent on a mission to spy on the doings of the Haradians. Aragorn now has a twin goal: to complete his mission and to free his friend.

Journeying ever farther into the south, Aragorn gets wind of a mysterious buyer of slaves deep in the jungles near the Girdle of Arda. He proceeds to investigate the matter, in hopes of finding his friend and learning what the persons in question are up to. However, he soon finds that he has plunged into trouble that is easier to get into than to get out of. A deadly struggle follows, in which Aragorn is hard put to it to survive.

Rated Mature for violence and some horror themes.
