The Noldor brought them to Beleriand, but whether any survived latter Ages, no-one knows.

@Merin, they were "crystals hung in a fine chain net, the crystals being ever shining with an inner blue radiance"

Funnily enough, there's an article on Tolkien and magic on TORn today. Worth a look.

such as Fëanor creating the Silmarils, Eol making Anglachel and Anguirel from meteoric iron, which would 'cleave all earth-delved iron'.

@Ziggy - Yes, I wouldn't call it 'magic'; there's not a great deal of what we'd think of as 'magic' in Tolkien. There was a definite 'method' of doing things

I like the idea that the elves just have a different Science- that they do not just wave a magic wand but there is a proper scientifc method. They live forever- they would do, wouldn't they.

@Alpha - Tolkien never explains how he did it, or how he made the Fëanorion lamps, or the Palantiri. You just have to -- make it up :)
